Evan and his cousin Kaden are 9 months a part in age, with Kaden being the "Alpha" kid. How cool is that to have a cousin pretty much the same age and gender. But there has been one small problem - Beth's (my sister-in-law) husband Nate is in the Air Force and they haven't lived by us since the boys have been born.
Nate went on deployment to Iraq about 6 months ago, and Beth decided to "relocate" back home to be with family during this time. What an amazing time we have had! I think I can speak for both Jeremy and Beth, that we have had such a fun time watching the boys grow to be best friends during this time. We have been able to love on each others' kids and really get to know them more deeply and in the long run, Beth and I have gotten closer. We have found enjoyment watching our kids learn from each other, laugh with each other, run around, jump, scream and of course cry and pick on each other. By the end of this journey, the boys are more like siblings then cousins.
Today, Beth and Kaden are going home. And as joyful as I am that Nate will be back in the States in less than a week, I am grieved that Evan's best friend is leaving. Evan doesn't quite understand what is about to happen, even though I believe he is getting there. His very favorite person in the world right now is "Aunt Beth" and I don't blame him!
I am thankful that we all have had this opportunity to become closer and I pray that the Air Force will move them back home soon ;-)!
