Saturday night at church, I got the dreaded number flashing up on the screen! Parents you know the one! The signal to come get your kid. The service was pretty much over and we were finishing up the closing song. I assumed Carter pooped and they didn't want to change him - ha! I mean after all, he hadn't pooped all weekend, so I just knew he would back himself up in a corner during church where he could be left alone to do his thing (instead of his nosey mom catching him in mid grunt and rushing him to the potty). But, I quickly jumped up and ran to his classroom, with diaper and wet wipes in hand. That is when I saw it, I saw one of the teachers holding him and their backs were facing me. When they turned around, I have to admit, I got super nauseous! But put my happy, mommy smiley face on for Carter's sake. Oh man! It was bad. His temple, right next to his eye was pretty much the size of a shooter marble with a black and blue center. He wasn't crying until he saw me and the tears came flooding out. I immediately took him into my arms and asked him what happened.
"I bonked my head on the table...I so sorry mama! I so sorry! I got a boo boo on my eye!"
Still don't know why he apologized to me. That just broke my heart even more!
His teachers explained how it happened and apologized multiple times. I tried to ease their guilt and told them things like this happen. No big deal! And really, that is how I feel. Kids fall - it happens.
Here is a pic of the shiner on Sunday morning. Fortunately the initial marble sized swelling went down, but the shiner remains... and by Sunday evening his whole eyelid continued to get worse and turned into a nice dark maroon color!
BUT of course, we have a photo shoot scheduled with the talented Tonya Cook next week. So the timing is impeccable. Why do my kids insist on having facial injuries for photo shoots?
So please tell me that his eye will be back to beautiful by next Sunday. I have never had a black eye, and fortunately the kids have never had a real shiner. So please people, tell me it will be okay!!
