Last fall I enrolled Evan and Carter in swimming lessons. They have taken them consistently since September. And I'll be honest with you, I totally thought I was wasting my money because neither kid can "swim" yet, even though, both kids have made some huge strides over the past month. My goal for this summer, was that both kids could "save" themselves if they fell into the water. Evan passed the swim test to go down the big slides at our pool, but still was really hesitant to swim in any depth that he couldn't touch. That was until this weekend.
We were at a fabulous pool party, sponsored by Momminitup and Tide Cold Water. After both boys watched Jeremy and a few other of the dads
make fools of themselves jump off the diving boards, both of them said they wanted to do it. Let's get real people, I just knew Evan would not go off the diving board. So as you will see in the video below, I was focused on Carter because he is my more daring one and he had a life jacket on. I just knew that if either boy would take the plunge it would be Carter.
As you can see, Evan just walked down the plank and jumped in like he knew what he was doing. And because I focused on Carter, I totally missed this first of his! I didn't realize he did it until I saw him climbing the ladder. I am such a horrible mom!
So here is the second jump - completely focused on my other son ;-)!
By the end of the evening, Evan was running off and jumping then swimming with ease to the ropes, then treading water while hanging out with us!
Apparently, all the swimming lessons, which I thought weren't doing anything, managed to teach Evan to swim and Sunday night, it "clicked" with him. Just like many other things lately! I knew that this year would be a huge year and Evan just keeps on surprising me! And I am loving it!
