I found, what I think is a great idea, on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago: A Summer Bucket List! This gave me some inspiration to do my own. And after searching a little more on Pinterest I compiled a list that we are going to try to do with the boys this summer. I love this idea because it keeps Jeremy and I "accountable" to remembering to do many of the fun things that we forget to do until August. After I compiled a list of activities (many are educational, many are things that we know we are doing, and many are just to remind us to do them) I used Pinterest again to find a way to display it in the house, because I NEED to see it daily or I will forget about it! Yes, I am that absentminded!
I like this idea that uses a cork board in a picture frame and you pin each idea on the cork board.
I headed to Goodwill and found MATCHING frames that were $3 a piece. I didn't measure them, but they are approximately 18 inches x 15 inches. Here is what they looked like before:
I took the glass out of each (and actually broke the glass out of one of them accidentally but didn't fret because I was replacing the glass with cork anyway) and spray painted each frame with matte black.
I found some cork at Michael's. It was about $10 but I had a 40% coupon. I used half the cork and now trying to figure out what other nifty project I can use it for. But if you had a 11 x 14 inch they have one solid piece of cork that measures 11 x 14 at Michael's for about $5. Then you don't have to cut and piece it together. But I purchased the frames before checking at Michael's for sizes.
I cut tags out of brightly colored card stock and hand wrote each activity on each individual tag. Then cut a piece of card stock and wrote "Summer Bucket List 2012" on it. Notice I didn't use my computer or printer for the tags but you could if you wanted. I'm pretty proud of myself for just handwriting it all and not trying to be too perfectionistic.
Here is the final product:
I hung my new Summer Bucket List Display right outside the kitchen, in my dining room where I have to pass it each time I go to the kitchen. It's a constant reminder of activity options I can do with the boys.
Did you notice I was ecstatic to find a pair of matching frames? I painted the other one black also and took the picture out and put white paper in. I then hung that one symmetrically on the other side of the door way where I am using it as a white board to keep lists for me, important info or to write Jeremy a note.
