I survived the week in between the last day of school and the beginning of summer! Whew! And let me tell you that we are ALL exhausted! I don't know about you and your family but it seems as if the first couple weeks of summer is always a challenging transition. We obviously are outdoors more, we are working on a new schedule and doing more recreational activities that wear two little boys (that I know) out!
And I have to pat myself on the back for last weeks efforts on not throwing my kids to the wolves! We actually enjoyed each other and found a few fun things to do besides waiting for the pool to open, waiting on friends to be out of school and destroying the house. I have a little confession about my boys - they hate being outdoors if there is no agenda. We have a beautiful, big backyard with a playset and room to run. But they won't just go out and play. Now if I suggest taking them to the park, or go fly a kite or head over to a friends house, they love being outside. But they just don't go out and play which completely boggles my mind and frustrates me thoroughly! So I had to actually find things to do with them last week! *GASP*
We did some science experiments, and we painted:
we picnicked (which fortunately I chose a great spot to picnic on Thursday because the splash pad was up and running):
We went to our city's block party and enjoyed free hotdogs and Dairy Queen ice cream, while enjoying music, getting our faces painted and meeting police and firemen.
We went on many bike rides:
This whole week I was just saying to myself, "make it to Saturday, the pool opens on Saturday", but then my friend Jenny had to bust my bubble and tell me that the pool has only late hours next week (because schools aren't out yet for the Life guards). WHAT AM I GOING to do next week, every day until 4? I've already been scouring Pinterest for ideas and trying to figure out how many times I can go to the Y (for the max of 2 hours each day) before the boys mutiny!
I don't know if I have another week in me! HELP! Send me some ideas that doesn't require much prep work or effort - HA! Send me backup!
