After agonizing whether or not to sign the boys up for their first race (and of course throwing the idea up on Twitter), I decided it "could" be fun to just dive right in and sign them up for one of the biggest races in the area! The Turkey Trot! Why not? My theory was that the boys would see a boat load of people running (8,000 to be exact) and love running amongst the chaos! Two things I learned from this event:
1. Carter DOES NOT like running first thing in the morning. He was looking forward to running but once we got there, after waking him up about an hour and a half earlier than his normal wake up time, he decided he was too tired to participate in the actual "running" of the event! HA! But he did enjoy sitting on daddy's shoulders for most of the 1 mile fun run. And at one point to catch up to us, Jeremy ran with Carter on his shoulders! After the finish line, several older women came up to Jeremy and praised his ability to run with a 35 pound boy on his shoulders! Show Off - Whatever - I could have done that too - sheesh!
2. It doesn't matter how much Evan hates running, you throw a friend in the mix, even better a friend who is a girl, and all of a sudden running (AND WINNING) is his passion. The boy ran probably 8 or 9 tenths of the total mile. The only time he stopped was when his friend Abigail and he agreed to take a breather! He is so flipping competitive -because he could NOT have a girl beat him at anything! *will need to keep that in mind for future use*
So we did it! And had a great time! I asked the boys if they wanted to race again and Carter immediately said, "YES" - ha! - and Evan said, "yes but when I get bigger!"
So I think running the Turkey Trot with the fam may be a new tradition!
