Recently, maybe the last 4 months, Carter has become a real dare devil. I think it is the result of watching Evan, and he wants to do EVERYTHING Evan is doing. But what he doesn't understand is that there are some things he really shouldn't be trying, but he is stubborn and does them anyway. I, at least try to allow him the most secure and safe ways of trying them.
Case in point, he has been DYING to go down the slide, without me. I have tried to go down with him on my lap, and he just goes boneless and tries to escape. He has watched his brother and other kids do it, so why shouldn't he be able too. And to make matters worse, he thinks now that he can walk, he REALLY should be allowed to do everything Evan does - including WALKING down the stairs, climbing up ladders and playing football with Jeremy - just to name a few. He actually has a pretty mean tackle going on!
Yesterday, knowing that it could be the last nice day of fall, I decided to take the boys to a park that doesn't have a lot of playground equipment but it is nestled amongst beautiful tall trees, walking paths, and a pond. I thought this would be perfect because the kids could run around and I could enjoy the beauty of Autumn!
It turned out to be a wonderful playground for Carter. There was only one "cliff" that I had to watch and all the slides were close to the ground at the end. So as I was watching them play, Carter takes off for the slide, which I thought "what is the worst that can happen, he needs to experience it." So I backed off to watch what he would do, if given the opportunity and without mom hovering. He didn't disappoint!!
