Here we are (Jenny and I) with the musical group, The Go Fish Guys
I know you have heard me say, a couple of times already, that I went to the Hearts at Home Conference. You will probably hear it a few more times this week :-)! While at the conference, there was a musical group, The Go Fish Guys, that performed for us. And let me just be honest about it: when they first started singing, I had to think to myself why this group was chosen. Not by any means because they were bad, but because I was expecting worship music or music that I am used to listening to on our local Christian radio stations. It took until the second song before realizing that the group sang kids music. Then the light bulb went off! And once I made that connection, my next thought quickly jumped to HOW MUCH Evan would be enjoying this "concert".
Evan LOVES music, if I hadn't mentioned that before. Because honestly I don't know if I have mentioned that before or not. Any way, he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES music. He asks to sit in during the worship time at church, and on the days that Jeremy and I volunteer in the nursery, he has learned that the praise band is practicing before service and he begs to go in and watch them practice; he asks me to turn the music on in the truck. My parents bought him a drum set for his birthday, and needless to say, it gets used EVERY DAY - more on that in tomorrow's post.
With all of that said, I couldn't help but wish my little man was with me when these guys performed because they have every thing that Evan loves to hear in music. The beat, the harmony and everything I love to hear, for Evan, the message! Go Fish Guys explained, to us Moms, that they were led to make kids music that us parents could listen to also. I have CDs upon CDs of Christian Kids music that the boys don't mind listening to, as background music, but really would rather listen to what I listen too on the radio. And I have felt bad, ever since Evan was born, that he didn't want to listen to classic kids songs such as The B.I.B.L.E. or Jesus Loves Me unless I sang them to him, which I don't mind, just not all the time!
So within the first 3 songs, I knew that I had to get the boys a CD, or 2, or... okay fine, I bought 3 of their CDs! I probably would have bought every different one they had, but I did need to stay within a budget :-). I couldn't wait to get home to let the boys listen to their new CDs and of course, just as I expected, they LOVED, LOVED it. As you will see in the video below, they danced, and danced, and danced (for the whole time of the first CD). And as you will hear, Evan started singing the B.I.B.L.E song almost immediately after hearing it, which just makes my ol' mother's heart rejoice. Even better, since Evan has insisted on having the Go Fish Guys playing non-stop since I have gotten home on Sunday night, he is beginning to ask what some of the lyrics mean! As a mom, you know how amazing it is for you children to ask about God, Jesus and the Bible. Evan is really starting to open up and wants to learn more.
Evan: "Mommy, what does 'so' mean?"
Me: " What do you mean?" (because at this point, I have no idea in what context he is thinking about)
Evan: "Well mommy, that song says, 'because the Bible tells me so', what does the Bible tell us about 'so'".
Of course, this was a remarkable open ended question that I got to answer. One that I loved to answer because after explaining what the word "so" meant, I got to reiterate to him that the Bible tells us how much Jesus loves him! HOW AWESOME IS THAT - because this whole discussion was led by Evan, not me, Because Evan wanted to know more about what the words of the music meant.
So, even though Evan loves dancing and drumming (you will see that one tomorrow) through most of the 3 CDs we now listen to on rotation, he is still hearing the words and starting to understand the words that are being sung!
I added this second video because as much as he loves to dance, you will see that the connection was made with the BIBLE song to him grabbing his own Bible and dancing with it!! And now he is even more interested in reading stories out of it. He loved reading it before, but it almost seems as if, every time if thinks about the song, he wants to read another story out of his Bible. How precious is that?
Jenny and I did warn the guys that we would be blogging about them. I don't think they really believed that we were "kinda a big deal" :-)! Thanks guys for the great kids music. My boys love you, just as I said they would!
