Last week the weather was just absolutely beautiful and somewhat cooler then average, so we wanted to get as much in as possible with our bucket list before the hot and humid hit!And because we couldn't go to the pool, I needed stuff to do with the boys! HA! First off our list was to go strawberry picking! The boys have never gone before (actually I hadn't either). Evan was totally into it for about half of the bucket! You pay a lump sum for the bucket, not by weight or volume. So I wanted to fill the bucket as much as we could. Carter just wanted to run up and down the aisles - shocker I know! Over all a fun trip and the boys insisted on eating all the strawberries that we picked (which was a double bonus).
Did I mention, we couldn't go to the pool at all last week? Oh well, I'm not really complaining. It was gorgeous out, but finding things to do to occupy two little boys is tough on a mom! Especially when dad is out of town! Jeremy was out of town 3 days last week so trying to be the fun parent about drove me to death. But we all survived!
On Thursday we pulled into the Y and there was a carnival setting up. I remembered seeing flyers for it so on Wednesday I deliberately went to a different Y so the boys wouldn't ask to go. But they had swimming lessons on Thursday (which I had forgotten about until the Y called me and asked if I was planning on coming since I didn't for the previous 2 days - oops!) and when they saw the games they immediately starting begging. I told them that on Saturday if the weather was nice we would go. Fortunately Jeremy came home a few hours early so we did end up heading to the carnival. Nothing like spending too much money on crap games and rides - ha! Don't get me wrong, we wanted to take the boys to a carnival, a carnival slightly bigger with a few more attractions. This little one had one ride that both boys could ride, the rest were too rough. But the boys enjoyed themselves!
On Sunday we were debating on what we should do. When I browsed the bucket list board. It was a perfect day to pack a picnic and do a nature scavenger hunt! Gotta love the board staring at you when trying to find something fun to do with the boys! I'm telling you, if it's not right in front of me, I forget about it!
So I printed out some pictures that I knew would be at our local arboretum. Sidenote: I found that our local parks website had all kinds of info on types of trees, insects and animals that could be found specifically to our parks! Great resource if you want your scavenger hunt to be that specific.
The boys then cut out the pictures and glued them onto book pages. Excuse the bed head of the boys:
Then we headed out for a picnic and a long afternoon of exploring:
