Carter has been talking none stop recently. His vocabulary is growing leaps and bounds and it has been so much fun listening to him and Evan have conversations. A little tidbit about Evan, that I have mentioned once or twice. He has some speech issues. Mainly blends such as "bl", "gr", and "ch" and certain letters such as "L" and "J". It is getting to the point that I most likely will have to get him evaluated soon by a speech pathologist. Even though, I have to admit, it is awfully cute to listen to him talk, even though I have to do A LOT of translating for people. We have kinda a joke in the family that Carter can speak more clearly than Evan.
Amazingly, to over compensate this speech problem, Evan has developed an in depth vocabulary. If you don't understand what he is saying, he will give you the definition and/or several synonyms to explain himself.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, Carter had some nicknames for certain people in his life. Evan is known as "Wah-Wah" along with Grandma, with a slightly different accent.
But that has all changed this week, and has brought a new level of respect between Evan and Carter.
Evan: "Carter say Evan"
Evan: "Mom, Carter can say my name, Evan."
Carter: "Mom, E -Van, E-Van, E-Van"
Evan: "Carter, say 'grandma'"
Carter: "Grannnnndddddd - maaaaa"
Evan: "Mom, Carter can say 'Grandma'"
Carter: "Mom, 'Grandma', 'Grandma', 'Grandma'"
I love that they are interacting with each other more and more.
But yesterday, I had to intervene:
The above conversation started as usual, but then Evan continued the game...
Evan: "Carter say, 'wittle'"
Carter confused looked at me: "Wittle?"
Evan: "No Carter, 'wittle' like 'wittle' kitty cat"
Awww. Translation: "Little"
Me: "Carter, Evan wants you to say 'little'"
Carter: "Little, little, little"
Evan: "Mom, Carter said 'wittle'. Carter say "koo koo."
Carter, again, puzzled: "Koo koo?"
Evan: "No Carter, 'koo koo' as in 'koo koo train'"
Carter: "ohhhh, choo choo train, choo choo train"
Evan: "Mom, Carter said 'koo koo train'
So as in the words of Evan, "Mom, I think it's coo that Carter is wearning how to tok wike big boys wike me. He is not wittle anymore."
Hey Carter, can you translate that for us?
